The age, and the curvature. Planck Collaboration, “Planck 2018 results. VI. Cosmological parameters,” Astronomy & Astrophysics 641, A6 (2020) — PDF read directly rather than quoted from the abstract, because the abstract carries neither number. The age of 13.797 ± 0.023 billion years is the combined temperature, polarisation, lensing and oscillation figure from the parameter table. The three curvature figures on spread eight are its equations 46b (−0.044, +0.018/−0.015, the temperature and polarisation spectra alone, with the 99 per cent range −0.095 to −0.007 and the one-in-ten-thousand remark in the same paragraph), 47a (−0.0106 ± 0.0065, adding the lensing reconstruction) and 47b (0.0007 ± 0.0019, adding the oscillations — the abstract rounds this to 0.001 ± 0.002 and the equation is quoted here instead). The paper argues against the closed reading in the same breath it reports it, on the grounds that the lensing reconstruction and the oscillation data do not support it — which is why spread eight gives both sides rather than picking the more interesting one.
The closed-universe argument. The geometry. Alexander Friedmann, “Über die Krümmung des Raumes,” Zeitschrift für Physik 10, 377–386 (1922) — the journal prints the name as Friedman; and Georges Lemaître’s 1927 paper, republished with its translated title “A homogeneous universe of constant mass and increasing radius accounting for the radial velocity of extra-galactic nebulae” in General Relativity and Gravitation 45, 1635–1646 (2013). Open: both were confirmed at their bibliographic records rather than read in the original languages, and neither is quoted here.

One number deliberately not printed. The radius of the observable universe is widely quoted at about 46 billion light years, which is larger than the age in light years because the intervening space has expanded. It is correct and it is a distraction on spread six, where the argument needs only that the sphere is finite and centred on the observer. We looked it up, and then left it out.
Credits
Prompted by an episode, built from the papers. Ryan Boren brought over a compilation of Brian Cox interview clips posted as The Big Bang Is Stranger Than You Think, in which Cox says plainly that the Big Bang “happened everywhere” and that it is “not expanding into anything” — the two sentences this zine is built on. Nothing is cited to that video and nothing is quoted from it. The file is an automatic transcript of clips of several different vintages: it gives the age as 13.75 billion years in the older segments and 13.8 in the newer, renders branes as “brains” throughout, and turns “ten with 120 noughts after it” into “knots.” It is a lead, and a good one. Every figure above came from a paper instead.
Multiverses, fine-tuning and eternal inflation are absent on purpose. They are the most striking part of the source and Cox marks them, repeatedly and carefully, as speculative — “way out there, way out on the edge” are his words for one of them. A collection whose register test is one settled fact, followed honestly has no business building an argument about people on a contested cosmology, however good it would sound.
The constellation on spread ten is not ours, and the chain behind it is longer than two names. A constellation of intensities is Helen Edgar’s, from “The Constellation of Intensities: Neuroqueering the Spiky Profile” (Autistic Realms, 2026); she carries it on from Patrick Dwyer’s “The Autism Constellation” (Autistic Scholar, 2020). Dwyer’s own 2021 update says he did not coin it: Caroline Hearst had built and shown a physical constellation model, and in correspondence with Helen, Damian Milton credits Larry Arnold as the first he knows of to use constellation in place of spectrum, with Milton and the late Dinah Murray discussing similar ideas. The metaphor is older than any one essay and belongs to the Autistic community. That chain is reproduced from Not a Line rather than re-derived here, and it is reproduced in full for that zine’s own stated reason — a piece arguing against ranking people should not erase the people whose idea it is using.
What this deliberately does not re-argue
Why Difference Comes First (No. 11) is Helen Edgar’s, and it owns the microwave background’s unevenness — the one part in 100,000 that let gravity gather anything at all, and the argument that difference is what makes structure possible. That is the strongest neurodiversity reading of the early universe and it is hers; this zine stays entirely off it, and takes the geometry instead of the anisotropy. The Difference-First Frame holds the backing material for it. Not a Line (No. 21) owns the spectrum-as-line critique, the functioning labels and the constellation that replaces them — it is the nearest piece to spread ten by some way, and that spread deliberately stops at showing the cosmology has the same shape rather than making the argument again. The Noise Floor (No. 56) owns the discovery of the background, and The Universe Runs on Difference (No. 8) owns monoculture and variety.
A rhyme, not a proof. No result in cosmology establishes anything about a nervous system, a diagnosis or a scale of severity, and nothing here is offered as a cause. What the geometry supplies is one honest demonstration — that a complete, predictive, heavily tested description of something can simply decline to have a centre — and that is worth having, because every scale people have been sorted on was built by somebody who implied a middle was compulsory. The universe was under no such obligation. Neither are we.
