# Star Stuff

> Printable, shareable web artifacts about difference — zines, field guides and broadsides that take one settled fact and follow it until a claim about belonging is already inside it. A collaboration between the Stimpunks Foundation and More Realms.

The through-line is that the universe does not pathologize its own variation, read through the neurodiversity paradigm: difference is variation, not deficit. Two threads braid together — Carl Sagan's cosmology, and the finding that bone is piezoelectric.

Editorial conventions worth knowing if you quote from here. We write about neurodivergent and disabled people in the first person plural — we, us, our — because we write from inside that community. *Autistic* is capitalised as an identity term; *autism* is not. Quotations are traced to primary sources and every piece records its sources, its open questions and its corrections in FACTCHECK.md; corrections are published by date in the changelog rather than quietly fixed.

Where a link below is followed by [Markdown], that page has a Markdown sibling at the same address with .md appended, derived from the page's own <main> landmark and advertised from its <head>. **62 of the 212 pages have one.** The other 150 deliberately do not: the zines, field guides and print sheets carry part of their argument in figures, and a Markdown copy would be their prose with the diagrams silently missing. Where a page does have a sibling and something was still dropped, its frontmatter says so.

This index is curated, not exhaustive. It lists the ways in, the working papers, and the 16 collection pages that lead to everything else. The complete list of all 180 pieces is at https://starstuff.earth/whats-new.html, and https://starstuff.earth/sitemap.xml is exhaustive.

## Start here

Four doors into Star Stuff, and why a site that argues for links over folders has a start-here at all. — [Start Here](https://starstuff.earth/collection-start-here.html) [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-start-here.md)

- [How It All Connects](https://starstuff.earth/cosmic-connections.html): Three sites, one web. Nothing here was arrived at in a straight line, and none of it is anybody's alone. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/cosmic-connections.md)
- [What Star Stuff Is](https://starstuff.earth/about.html): Zines and field guides on the science of belonging — we are made of star stuff, and we belong not despite our differences but as them. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/about.md)
- [We Are All Star Stuff](https://starstuff.earth/we-are-all-star-stuff.html): Voices from the community. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/we-are-all-star-stuff.md)
- [Love You Down To Your Star Stuff](https://starstuff.earth/love-you-down-to-your-star-stuff.html): The whole phrase, in long form — what LYDTYSS is, and what it is not. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/love-you-down-to-your-star-stuff.md)

## What this project is

Eleven pieces the rest of the site presupposes rather than argues — including the one that makes every other claim checkable, and the one that shows the machinery. — [Foundations](https://starstuff.earth/collection-foundations.html) [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-foundations.md)

- [What We Are For](https://starstuff.earth/mission.html): The mission of starstuff.earth, in eleven aims — each with the page where it is already being kept. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/mission.md)
- [Six Principles and a Room](https://starstuff.earth/six-principles-and-a-room.html): An ethic you can only point at a person is an ethic that will keep finding the fault in the person. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/six-principles-and-a-room.md)
- [Rainbow Serpents](https://starstuff.earth/rainbow-serpents.html): entropy increases in an isolated system — and the qualifier keeps falling off [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/rainbow-serpents.md)
- [Starlight](https://starstuff.earth/starlight.html): This repository is public — every page, every tool, every error. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/starlight.md)
- [A Promise, Not a Finding](https://starstuff.earth/a-promise-not-a-finding.html): For forty-nine issues we have signed off Love you down to your star stuff. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/a-promise-not-a-finding.md)
- [Who Is Holding the Candle](https://starstuff.earth/who-is-holding-the-candle.html): Skepticism and wonder, learned at the same time and called uneasy neighbours. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/who-is-holding-the-candle.md)
- [Too Good to Check](https://starstuff.earth/too-good-to-check.html): How a story gets smoother than the science, and what reading the primary source puts back. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/too-good-to-check.md)
- [The Garden and the Stars](https://starstuff.earth/the-garden-and-the-stars-zine.html): on knowledge gardens, the commons, and how star stuff comes to know itself
- [Inclusion Safety: Owed, Not Earned](https://starstuff.earth/inclusion-safety-creed.html): Inclusion safety is not a reward for the worthy. It is the baseline we owe one another simply for being here. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/inclusion-safety-creed.md)
- [Neurodiversity Field Guide](https://starstuff.earth/neurodiversity-field-guide-zine.html): What the paradigm actually claims. What it means to say variation instead of disorder.
- [Star Stuff Manifesto](https://starstuff.earth/manifesto.html): On the cosmic origins of who we are, and why we belong — not despite difference, but as difference. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/manifesto.md)

## How it is made, and how it is checked

The working material, published on purpose — including every error we have caught in our own work. — [Notes & Rationale](https://starstuff.earth/collection-notes.html) [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-notes.md)

- [What This Site Knows About You](https://starstuff.earth/privacy.html): Almost nothing, and this page says exactly which almost. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/privacy.md)
- [The Ladder We Don't Print](https://starstuff.earth/the-ladder-we-dont-print.html): A reading of our own shelf, not a measurement — and a reading can be argued with. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/the-ladder-we-dont-print.md)
- [Designing for Paper](https://starstuff.earth/print-design.html): Every number here was arrived at by printing something and finding out it was wrong. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/print-design.md)
- [The Design System](https://starstuff.earth/design.html): The visual language of this collection is itself an argument about access. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/design.md)
- [What Changed, and When](https://starstuff.earth/changelog.html): These are living documents, and a living document should show its work. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/changelog.md)
- [The Difference-First Frame](https://starstuff.earth/difference-first-frame.html): Reference notes behind Love You Down To Your Star Stuff. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/difference-first-frame.md)

## Collections

Each collection page argues for why its pieces belong together, and states the axis it sorts on — register, form, medium, occasion, issue or audience. The collections were observed in finished work rather than planned, so several say on their own face where they break their own rules.

- [Field Guides](https://starstuff.earth/collection-field-guides.html): Twenty-four catalogues, 308 entries, and the sentence seventeen of them reach on their own: there is no standard anything. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-field-guides.md)
- [Glimmer Wire](https://starstuff.earth/collection-glimmer-wire.html): One page per edition, each graded before it is enjoyed. The archive keeps the thin weeks too, and says why. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-glimmer-wire.md)
- [Glimmers](https://starstuff.earth/collection-glimmers.html): Hopeful science news, told with a Star Stuff angle — news that stokes our senses of wonder, awe, interdependence and belonging. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-glimmers.md)
- [How We Got Here](https://starstuff.earth/collection-how-we-got-here.html): Chains, in the manner of James Burke's Connections — and every joint marked documented, contested or leap, because a chain is built to feel inevitable and that is exactly the problem. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-how-we-got-here.md)
- [Kin](https://starstuff.earth/collection-kin.html): Careful, citation-dense natural history with a neurodivergence moral: crabs that evolved at least five times, a shark skeleton that skipped bone, the vertebrate that is not grown at 150, turtles everywhere turtles go… [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-kin.md)
- [More Than Human](https://starstuff.earth/collection-more-than-human.html): The de-anthropocentrized strand of Star Stuff: Umwelt and every creature sealed in its own complete perceptual world, multispecies councils, niche construction, mycorrhizal networks, and nervous systems that are nothing like ours. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-more-than-human.md)
- [Print](https://starstuff.earth/collection-print.html): Nine broadsides made for paper, a typographic specimen, and one sheet that is deliberately blank. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-print.md)
- [Sound](https://starstuff.earth/collection-sound.html): Eight racks, 268 cards, and the rules that decide what earns one. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-sound.md)
- [Star Gazing](https://starstuff.earth/collection-star-gazing.html): The experimental, neuroqueer end of Star Stuff — named by Helen Edgar. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-star-gazing.md)
- [Star Stuff](https://starstuff.earth/collection-star-stuff.html): The founding Star Stuff register — where a single settled, checkable fact carries the argument about belonging rather than decorating it. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-star-stuff.md)
- [Stars We Grew Up On](https://starstuff.earth/collection-stars-we-grew-up-on.html): The culture end of Star Stuff, where “star” means icon rather than nucleosynthesis — David Bowie and AURORA as ways of being star stuff, unmasking as authorship… [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-stars-we-grew-up-on.md)
- [Triggers](https://starstuff.earth/collection-triggers.html): The mirror of Glimmers. Name the harm, then grade every response to it — deployed, scaling, demonstrated, proposed, speculative. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-triggers.md)
- [Young Readers](https://starstuff.earth/collection-young-readers.html): Sorted by audience — the first collection here defined by who a piece is for. [Markdown](https://starstuff.earth/collection-young-readers.md)
