# *Changelog*

Every piece as it arrived, every substantial revision, and every fact-check — corrections included. These are living documents, and a living document should show its work.

---

This log is backfilled from the collection's full commit history and kept up from here. It records three kinds of change: **pieces added**, **pieces substantially revised**, and **fact-check and attribution audits** — including the errors we found in our own work and exactly how we fixed them. Small typo passes and styling tweaks are left out; anything that changes what a piece *claims* is in.

**150 dated entries across 3 months, one page each.** This was a single page until 14 September 2026, when it had reached 1.4 MB and was growing by about six entries a day — the same argument that split [the Glimmer Wire](https://starstuff.earth/collection-glimmer-wire.html) into one page per edition. **The cost is stated rather than hidden:** you can no longer search the whole history with your browser's find-in-page. [Site search](https://starstuff.earth/search.html) covers it, every entry keeps the address it always had, and a link to any of them still lands on the right entry.

Why publish our corrections

We braid real science with ideas credited to named thinkers, so the facts and the attributions have to be right. We're human, and we've gotten things wrong — a paraphrase dressed as a Sagan quote, a Martin Luther King Jr. line credited to Baldwin, a forest-wide fungal network asserted as settled fact because it rhymed so well with mutual aid. Naming those in public is part of the method, not an embarrassment to bury.

The working guidelines and the full per-piece ledger live in [FACTCHECK.md](https://github.com/Stimpunks/Star-Stuff/blob/main/FACTCHECK.md). If you spot an error, [open an issue](https://github.com/Stimpunks/Star-Stuff/issues) or reach us at [stimpunks.org](https://stimpunks.org). **Corrections are mutual aid.**

- [2026 · August 26 Dickinson’s freight is proportioned to the groove, which is what monotropic love already looks like — and the line we had drafted as Deleuze and Guattari turns out to be Deleuze alone, saying it out loud, in a different work](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-26-groove)
- [2026 · August 26 Dolly Parton died yesterday, and the thing worth keeping is not that she was generous but that she never once made anybody qualify — which is why the sharpest reading of her belongs inside the tribute rather than after it](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-26-dolly)
- [2026 · August 26 David Byrne wrote “a very mild (I think) form of Asperger’s syndrome” and the internet published a coming-out — and in the same paragraph he repeated a 1994 study’s 69 percent without the qualification printed in its very next sentence](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-26)
- [2026 · August 25 The correction to The Selfish Gene was printed in The Selfish Gene — and the sentence that fixed it did not travel, which is also what happened to the exception clause that our own glossary dropped](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-25-chain)
- [2026 · August 25 Most of a fairy-wren brood is fathered by males from outside the group who do none of the feeding, and every male in the group feeds it anyway — the companion catalogue to No. 64, sorted by what the care runs on rather than by who is related to whom](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-25-guide)
- [2026 · August 25 The birds that cannot raise young without helpers are the ones least made of relatives — 77% against 38% — so the arrangement sold to us as nature’s own unit does not survive its own evidence, and the proverb everyone quotes about villages turns out to have no village of its own](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-25)
- [2026 · August 24 We counted a four-word sentence as six and printed the number in thirteen places, and the sweep that fixed it turned up the identical fault sitting in a zine that shipped weeks ago — because none of our six checks can count the words in a sentence and compare them to the figure written beside it](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-24)
- [2026 · August 23 Neruda says fish the fallen light out of the well with patience, but if you are the light at the bottom then every instruction in the poem is addressed to somebody else — so here is the fungus that answers it, glowing inside a dead log for no reason anyone has established in a hundred and sixty million years — plus the ladder the zines climb without naming, which gets its own page and stays off the spreads](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-23)
- [2026 · August 22 Light leaves with nothing written on it, so every name in astronomy is a record of when somebody was standing there — and the same is true of a diagnosis, which is why the first clinical description of Autistic children took seventy-one years to reach English while two later men’s names got fixed to what she had described — plus six corrections to the draft that arrived, one of them a propagated error about a city that we have left on the page on purpose, and a count on the collection page that was already one short before we added anything](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-22)
- [2026 · August 19 The most famous rotation-curve paper never uses the word dark, the curves in it are not flat, and the sentence it actually ends on is so narrow we took the zine's title from it — plus a founding premise that failed its own fact-check and is printed on the page instead of quietly dropped, a coinage this repo had been using on fifteen pages without ever crediting anyone, and eleven spreads relaid out because two columns were carrying a five-to-one imbalance — then a second zine in which the number that gave Brontosaurus its name back turns out to be thirteen, chosen one step past the largest gap anybody was willing to call the same animal, published with its calibration shown and fenced by its own authors as valid nowhere else — and the appeal those same authors filed three years later and lost, in print, under a numbered Opinion — then the companion catalogue: eighteen cards of animals we drew wrong, one of them drawn upside down and then back-to-front, one that was three animals in three different groups, and a famous anecdote in which the wrong man has been getting the credit for a hundred and thirty-five years](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-19)
- [2026 · August 18 The front page had grown to a hundred and sixteen phone screens, three quarters of it card descriptions — and the obvious fix, a Details toggle inside the card, is invalid markup that every gate here waves through — plus an otter that keeps a stone across a meal rather than across a lifetime, a population that answered scarcity by refusing to average itself, and an accommodation you can read off a skeleton — then a refusal that put the otter on the stand as a witness for us, which is the one thing the same refusals set forbids — and a freshwater polyp with no brain that sleeps anyway, needs to, and settles what a ledger for rest was ever supposed to be counting — then a catalogue of fifteen ways of resting, in which the most-repeated sleep statistic about any mammal turns out to be one measurement taken in one warm room](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-18)
- [2026 · August 17 The average colour of starlight turns out to be a published erratum, which is the argument for the open repository — plus the first plain statement of how this site is actually made, a stale count in our own stylesheet found by the essay about not trusting our own notes, a chain in which the most important discovery in modern cosmology arrives as noise two engineers spent ten months trying to get rid of, and seven collection pages that had quietly stopped counting themselves — plus a borrowed word we credit as unowned, and an eggshell that hands over four fifths of its calcium to the skeleton of the animal it contains without ever measurably thinning, a catalogue in which the egg you are picturing turns out to be one band out of five, and a link that for a day went somewhere other than its own label promised, and eight thousand characters of prose no search could reach, hidden behind a coverage figure of ninety-three per cent](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-17)
- [2026 · August 16 Five love locutions set beside the five mechanisms that actually assemble matter, an attribution chain we had been getting wrong on our own most-read page, a lone wolf that was never an outcast, seven weavers who proved the textbook instinct was never a template, and a catalogue of nests in which most of the nests are not built](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-16)
- [2026 · August 15 A Moon that was never anything but half lit, an eighth chain on the day we stopped waiting for the Moon, a word Kepler had to invent in the middle of a diagram, a seventh chain on the second we cut loose from the sky, two Sagans on who is holding the candle, a foundation split out of an easter egg, a Discworld coda, a stack of elephants that was never Hindu cosmology, a sheet we had been holding for permission, and eight drawings of our mascot that nearly credited the wrong person](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-15)
- [2026 · August 14 Three pieces from one essay, a fact we had been repeating that isn't true, two credits we owed — to a number, and to a comedy channel — a shadow bigger than the thing that throws it, and a third credit that cost us three attributions](https://starstuff.earth/changelog-2026-08.html#2026-08-14)
